Stabbing leaves one dead

A woman has been arrested in the fatal Monday night stabbing of a south Omaha man. Teresa Tippery was booked today on suspicion of manslaughter and weapon use in the death of Richard Tippery. In another overnight incident, police were called to near 38th and Corby Streets about 3:35 a.m. today. The initial report was of shots being fired. They found a shooting victim, who later died.




Omaha considers sex offender limits

High-risk sex offenders who have assaulted children would not be able to live within about two city blocks of a school under a proposed Omaha city ordinance.

North Omahans have lots to talk about with mayor

At a town hall meeting with Mayor Mike Fahey Monday night, North Omahans raised questions about a variety of topics: the spending of federal block grant dollars, booming car stereos that rattle windows and nerves, a sewer-separation process that seems to be dragging, more jobs for teens.

Improvement plan scaled back

A new attempt is being made to convince property owners that it's in their interest to tax themselves to promote and improve Omaha's downtown. The latest, scaled-back plan would assess an additional tax on all residential and commercial property in the downtown area. The commercial tax would be $48 for every $100,000 of property valuation.




Mom gets probation in house party death

A 52-year-old mom who allowed an underage beer party at her home last April while she stayed overnight at a hotel won't serve time in jail. Mills County District Judge Jeffrey Larson sentenced Suzanne Blowers of Glenwood to one year of probation and 60 hours of community service for her role in the party that resulted in the drowning death of 19-year-old Derik Bolton of Glenwood.
