LINCOLN - Nebraska lost its third linebacker to a season-ending injury Sunday when Bo Ruud broke his right arm in practice.
Ruud will miss the Alamo Bowl game with Michigan. He will have surgery in the next few days, and the injury could limit him next spring. "Immediately, our first question was, 'Can we cast it and play?'" Ruud said. "Doc said we can't because of the nature of the injury, and it just wouldn't work. "I really wanted to play this game, but there's nothing you can do about that now. Just get ready for next year." Ruud had started the Huskers' last 10 regular-season games at weakside linebacker. The sophomore from Lincoln Southeast ranked second on the team with 80 total tackles, behind only Corey McKeon with 87.
Ruud got his arm caught between two backs in a "tag-off" drill late in practice. The snap he heard turned out to be his radius bone. Weakside linebacker Steve Octavien didn't make it to halftime of NU's season-opening game with Maine before hurting his leg and ankle. Strongside linebacker Stewart Bradley missed the second half of the season after suffering a knee injury against Texas Tech.
