Jill & Justin

Even after three years of dating boyfriend Justin Jensen, Jill Ferris was very surprised with his proposal.

On New Year's Eve 2004, the couple vacationed with Jill's family in Keystone, Colo., which is their New Year's holiday tradition. At midnight, Justin escorted Jill to the middle of a quiet ice skating rink, where he got down on bended knee and asked her to marry him. "I couldn't believe it," she said. "Of course I said yes."

The couple were college students when they met during a blind date set up by mutual friends. "It was instant attraction," Jill said.

Jill attended the University of Nebraska at Omaha, while Justin attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. "We saw each other on weekends only," said Jill. "It was tough, but I think the distance made us stronger."

On Sept. 3, 2005, the couple were married in the courtyard at the Sheraton Omaha Hotel in downtown Omaha. The reception was held in the courtyard as well as inside the hotel. "It was so hot that day, but beautiful. This gave guests a way to escape the heat."

Fuschia with silver accents was the color theme for the wedding. "I wanted a bright color that would stand out and look good in pictures," Jill said.

There were several special moments during the ceremony that Jill said she will never forget - her family pastor officiated, her second-grade teacher was vocalist - but when she and Justin were pronounced "husband and wife," it was surreal, she said.

Since the ceremony and reception were at the same location, Jill and Justin enjoyed a carriage ride around downtown Omaha after the ceremony, stopping for pictures along the way.

The couple didn't take a honeymoon, but are planning a future trip. Justin attends veterinary school at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, where the couple now reside.
