Don Martineau was a fighter to the finish

Former Omaha Knights forward Don Martineau, a longtime member of the city's hockey community, lost his 16-month battle with cancer Sunday night. The 53-year-old Martineau was diagnosed with brain cancer in November 2004. He died at home with his family by his side.

Omaha goalie McElhinney enjoys transition to pros

Curtis McElhinney went from being the top dog on his college hockey team to just a pup in the American Hockey League, but the rookie goalie is having the time of his life with the Ak-Sar-Ben Knights.

Peoria swipes SO win from Knights

The Peoria Rivermen might well be one of the most complete teams heading into the American Hockey League playoffs, but Saturday night, they had to resort to a little trickery to derail the Ak-Sar-Ben Knights. By feigning an injury to starting goalie Chris Beckford-Tsue, the Rivermen were allowed to switch goaltenders heading into a shootout. The ploy worked to perfection, as Gregg Naumenko stoned Omaha's final six shooters and Peoria escaped with a 3-2 victory at the Civic Auditorium.

Knights brace for pesky Rivermen

A key component to the Ak-Sar-Ben Knights' American Hockey League playoff push is likely out of the lineup tonight as Omaha continues its four-game homestand with a 7 p.m. showdown with Peoria at the Civic Auditorium.

Knights notch shootout win

The Ak-Sar-Ben Knights are playing at such a high level these days, not even sleepwalking through the second period against first-place Houston could get coach Ryan McGill worked up. The Knights shoved their playoff push into overdrive Thursday with a stirring 5-4 American Hockey League victory over the Aeros, capped by defenseman Mark Giordano's shootout winner at the Civic Auditorium.

Knights brace for Aeros, look to hold off Iowa

The Houston Aeros are coming to town - again, the Iowa Stars won't go away, and the Ak-Sar-Ben Knights still find themselves in one of the most heated battles for a playoff spot in the American Hockey League. The Knights have one eye on the fifth-place Stars, whom they have a six-point lead over, but Omaha's main focus is on its tough three-game stretch coming up at the Civic Auditorium. It starts tonight against frontrunning Houston, followed by Peoria on Saturday and then Houston on March 31.

Knights' Prust likes to mix it up

Brandon Prust walks into the Ak-Sar-Ben Knights' dressing room, takes off his skates and heads right to trainer D.J. Amadio's room. He knows the routine. The bags of ice aren't for a bum knee or sore shoulder. They are for his hands, which can look like raw hamburger once Prust finishes a night's work in the American Hockey League.

One goal enough as Knights fall to Milwaukee

A goal by Milwaukee's Simon Gamache 81/2 minutes in turned out to be the only score of the game Monday night as the Admirals handed the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights a 1-0 loss.
