W-H News Extra: Omaha Ak-Sar Ben Knights

ROSEMONT, Ill. - Defensemen Steve Bancroft and Zenith Komarniski scored their first goals of the season in the third period and the Ak-Sar-Ben Knights picked up their second win in Chicago in a week, beating the Wolves 6-4.

Bancroft, the oldest player on Omaha's roster at age 35, had been held without a point through his first 24 games of this American Hockey League season, but his power-play goal 9:42 into the third broke a 3-all tie. Komarniski assisted on the goal, and then added one of his own four minutes later to give the Knights some breathing room.

Forward Lynn Loyns then made it 6-3 with 4:32 remaining with his first of the season.

The Knights scored three times on the power play and one short-handed goal, but it was Chicago which broke on top first. The Wolves took advantage of Komarniski's hooking penalty 20 seconds into the game as Mark Popovic beat Omaha goalie Curtis McElhinney only five seconds later.

Brannt Myhres, with help from Warren Peters, tied it less than eight minutes later, but Chicago's Stephen Baby made it 2-1 with an even-strength goal 40 seconds after Myhres tally.

Cam Severson, however, tied it again with Omaha a man down with 8:37 left in the first. Carsen Germyn and Doell traded second-period goals to set up the wild third period.

The Knights (11-9-0-5) are off until Wednesday's game in Peoria, and return home for a Saturday contest against San Antonio.
